Gilbert A. Clark, 85, of Yates Street, Forty Fort, died peacefully on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at his home. He was born in Wyoming on December 3, 1924, and was a son of the late Ellen Gilbert Clark and the late Frank Laphy Clark. He attended Forty Fort schools and was a member of the class of 1943. Gilbert entered the U.S. Army on June 15, 1943, and was sent to Fort Bliss, Texas, with the 131st AAA 90 mm Gun Battalion. In April of 1944, he joined F Co. 273rd Infantry at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He left the 69th Infantry after the War on August 5, 1945, and served in other units in Belgium, Holland and France. He was discharged from Fort Dix, N.J. While in the Army, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, ETO Ribbon with two battle stars, American Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After the War, Gilbert was employed by his uncle, the late William H. Gilbert, as an electrical contractor. In the 1960s, he took over the electrical contracting business, retiring in 2009. Gilbert was a professional musician, having performed with the Scranton Philharmonic and Wilkes-Barre Symphony. He also performed with the combined Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic for several years. He performed with many local bands, including The Stegmaier Gold Medal Band, Cetta's Band and the Wyoming Valley Band. Gilbert was a member of the Forty Fort Presbyterian Church. He was a life member and former Chief of the Forty Fort Fire Co. and its Relief Association. He was also a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local No. 140, Wilkes-Barre, Wyoming Lodge No. 468, F & AM and Veterans of Foreign Wars. His wife, Marion Dyke Clark, preceded him in death on February 14, 2009. Surviving are his daughter, Ellen Campbell and her husband, Joseph, Wyoming; grandchildren Emily Smith, Paul Starosta and his fiancée, Sara Jordan; Rachel, Sarah, Joseph, Logan and Anna Beth Campbell; two great-grandchildren, Laura and Cameron Smith. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort. The interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be conducted on Sunday at 7 p.m.
