Daughter of the late Fenner T. Phillips and Lola Winfield, she was the widow of Leonard Wilson Metts (married on February 24, 1952). She was a graduate of Washington High School and was inducted in the Walk of Fame at the school. She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She worked as an accountant. She was a member of First Christian Church at Washington. She was precceded in death by three brothers and four sisters and a nephew, Fenner T. Phillips, III. She was survived by her nephews and nieces, Dewey H. Taylor, Elise T. Dyer, Augusta Cole, James W. Phillips, Charles Phillips, Norman Manning, Phillip Carson and Carolyn C. Jackson. Her graveside service was held April 28, 2010, with The Rev. Dr. Michael Price officiating.
