An open house and celebration of life for Terry Cooney, 63, of Coos Bay will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 for family and friends at the family home in Coos Bay. Cremation Rites have been held at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematorium in Coos Bay.
Terrance Patrick Cooney was born on Dec. 28, 1946 in Coos Bay to Elmer Wayne Cooney and Edna May (Nullet) Cooney. He died March 21, 2010 in Coos Bay.
Terry grew up in Coos Bay. He attended Blossom Gulch Elementary, Harding Middle School and graduated from Marshfield High School in 1965. He attended Oregon State University on a wrestling scholarship and later graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor's degree in Business in 1969. It was in Eugene that daughter Sunny was born to Terry and his first wife, Nan.
Terry ran a youth recreation center while residing in Alaska; was a carpenter while living in Texas; and while in Hawaii and California he was a Realtor and coached high school wrestling. In 1991, Terry and his wife, Chris, returned to Coos Bay to raise their three daughters. Prior to his retirement, Terry worked at Marshfield High School as a teacher's assistant. Terry was a Pirate and Duck sports fan, enjoyed relationships he had with several childhood buddies and the Friday morning breakfast bunch.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Chris Cooney of Coos Bay; daughters, Sarah Cooney of Coos Bay, Hannah Cooney of Eugene, Elizabeth Cooney of Portland and Sunny Quiahua of Chula Vista, CA; granddaughter, Rosa Quiahua of Chula Vista; and mother Edna Cooney of Coos Bay.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Wayne Cooney and his sister, Sharon Westgaard.
