Doyce B. Dees Jr. was born near Duncan, Okla., but his home for his first 20 years of life was Fort Worth. He made friends for life at Carter Riverside and Arlington Heights High Schools, East Texas State University in Commerce and UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Dees worked briefly in family practice in Fort Worth before joining the United States Air Force. He spent the next 20 years in the medical branch of military service, first completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, then moving on to medical and finally medical administrative positions on military bases in Amarillo (Amarillo); San Francisco, Calif. (Hamilton); North Dakota (Grand Forks), England (RAF Alconbury), Bossier City, La. (Barksdale); San Antonio (Randolph); and the Philippines (Clark).
After retiring from the Air Force, he returned to Fort Worth to spend 14 years as a teaching professor and assistant director of the UT Southwestern-affiliated residency program at John Peter Smith Hospital and maintain a small private practice. In addition to his work, Dr. Dees was an avid golfer, gardener, carpenter and history buff. In his retirement, he served as chair of the editorial committee for the "Tarrant County Physician" and worked on committees of the Tarrant County Arthritis Association.
Dr. Dees loved and cherished his family and his wonderful friends, including his golfing buddies and the residents he taught at JPS Hospital, all of whom he was so very proud. He was a faithful member of the McManus breakfast club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lila Conn and D.B. Dees Sr.
