John Allen Smelley was born Feb. of 1868 in Tyler County, Tx. to Willis and Lucinda Butcher Smelley. He lived most of his life around Nacogdoches, Tx. Married Lizzie Owens on 5-22-1892. Lizzie Owens was born in Rusk Co. Texas in 1876. He died on 4-17-1934 in Sacul,Tx. Rusk Co. He and Lizzie Owens Smelley are buried at Lone Star Cemetery, which is off Hwy. 21 in Nacogdoches, Tx. Their daughter Viola, and son, Theron are also buried there. Their other children were Lucinda Mae Smelley (married Irvin A. Tipton), Maggie, Burton, Josie, Allie, Lesley, Jewel, Viola, Theron, and Mable. (This note left by an unidentified contributor.)
