My 2X Great Grandfather died from the Spanish Influenza Outbreak according to his death certificate. He was 79 years old. He was buried in the same cemetery as his father and grandfather. His son, my great grandfather, William was also buried in this cemetery.
I believe George was named after his maternal grandfather, George Geasserr who emigrated from Germany and with his wife had seven daughters and no known sons. His daughters kept their father's memory alive by naming many of their sons George or George Geasserr and this continued down through the families.
George also served as the mayor of Lopatcong Township in 1889 and 1891.
George and Margaret had two children, William C. DeWitt, my great grandfather and Harriet DeWitt also known as Hattie who never married.
