Mrs. Abel was a long time active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Monday Morning Women's Bible Class at St. Paul's and the Young at Heart. She was a member and past Officer of the Lutheran Women's Mission League, past member of the Aurora Women's Club, past president of the Kennedy Unit of the Kane County Homemakers Education Association and former member and past president of her unit of the Child Welfare Association.
Mrs. Abel is survived by her husband of 57 years, Fredrick Abel of Aurora; one daughter, Carol (Lester Jr.) Kleckner of Maple Park, IL; one son, Rev. Richard C. (Janet) Abel of New Windsor, IL; three grandsons, Kent Kleckner and David (Teri) Kleckner, both of Maple Park, IL and Richard E. (Janice) Abel of New Windsor, IL; one granddaughter, Kristina Abel of Aledo, IL; one great granddaughter, Grace L. Abel of New Windsor, IL; one brother, Robert (Lois) Peterson of Sandwich, IL; one sister-in-law, Ruth Tuer of Vulcon, Michigan; also two nieces and three nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruth Peterson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Abel will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jock Ficken will officiate with interment in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. She will lie in state at St. Paul's Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 11, 2000 at the Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway, Montgomery, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or V.N.A.
