James was oldest son of John C. Sapp and Nancy E. (Calvin) Sapp, Keerans. When he was 3, his father was killed by bush wackers.
James met Sarah Wilson and they married on 10-8-1882 in Boone Co. Mo. James and Sarah moved to Benton Co. Mo and they had 4 boys and 4 girls , Arthur S, Elijah O, Edgar Herman, and Jessie E. Sapp, Nettie (Sapp) McKee, Bessie B (Sapp) Holmes, Rhoda Ada (Sapp) Cooper and Lillian (Sapp) Bailey Looney Pine.
James left his wife and moved to Centertown (Cole Co.) Mo. He remained there til his death.
