Horace Hourigan, 94, of Harrodsburg, widower of Ruby Long Hourigan died Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
Born February 7, 1918 in Mercer County, Horace was the son of the late James Robert and Clyde Rexroat Hourigan.
He was a United States Army veteran and served during World War II. He was a self-employed plumber but for 18 years he worked for Hayslett's Mechanical Contractors. After his retirement Horace was a part time employee at Gateway of Harrodsburg. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 52. Horace enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Horace is survived by: two daughters, Brenda (Tom) Creamer of Shelbyville,and Charlotte (Bill) Hammond of Griffin, GA; one sister: Mary Helen Zeliff of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, Thomas and Kenneth Hourigan and two sisters: Ruth Sims and Josephine Powell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clayton Hammond, Nathan Hammond, Jeff Gaither, John Alexander, Jason Whisman and Thomas Gaither.
Visitation will be from 5. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 and after 7 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
