Services for John R. Owens, 74, of Canton are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Eubank Chapel in Canton with David Fretwell and Jerome Savage officiating.

Burial will follow at Grapeland Cemetery in Houston County under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home of Canton.
Mr. Owens died Sept. 8, 2004, in Canton.
He was born June 8, 1930, in Grapeland to John Ransome and Lillian Faye Robinson Owens.
Mr. Owens graduated from garland High School in 1948 and East Texas University in 1953. He married Jo Wanda Miller on Dec. 28, 1954. He retired from teaching and coaching in 1983. He served as a minister for the Church of Christ in Alabama, Missouri and Texas. He made four mission trips to India. He was a member of Whitton Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Jodie Owens of Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Paul "Chuck" and Jeanie Owens of Malakoff and Danny Ray and Kim Owens of Lubbock; daughter and son-in-law, Fay and Herman McDonald of Mobile, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Charlotte Owens of Athens; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anita and Gary Farmer of Greenville and Margie and Bill Hazelip of Commerce; mother-in-law, Lillian Miller of Canton; four grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Herman McDonald, Daniel McDonald, Damon McDonald, Robby Miller, Paul Jack "Pete" Nelson and Lemual Langley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Lunceford, Mike Watts, Russell Johnson, Oscar Brown, Nolan Dover, Robert Sanders and Johnny Andrews.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
