Edward M. Schaeffer Sr., 83, Frankfort, died at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 1983.

Born in Cissna Park, Ill, on Jan. 30, 1900, he was the son of Jacob and Elise (Rhentsch) Schaeffer. He was married to Florence Flemming who preceded him in death in 1957. In 1959, he was married to Mary Thomas, who survives.

A lifelong resident of Frankfort, he was a retired fireman with the Norfolk and Western Railway Company.

Surviving with his wife are two sons. Edward Michael Schaeffer Jr.. Burlington, and Gordon Carl Schaeffer, Crawfordsville; six daughters. Margie Geary, Lucille Fellow, Nancy Bowser, Ruth Bitner and Carol Brown, and Sandra Grand. Tampa. Fla.; a sister and brother; two stepdaughters; 40 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. A son preceded him in death.

Services were held Tuesday with entombment in Greenlawn Mausoleum.
