An inurnment service for Royal Eugene "Roy" Weybright, 86, of North Bend, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, at Ocean View Memory Gardens, 1525 Ocean Blvd., in Coos Bay

Royal was born Nov. 16, 1917, to Jess and Edna Poulter Weybright, in Rocky Ford, Colo. He died April 15, 2004, in Coos Bay.

In 1935, soon after graduating from Rocky Ford High School, he moved to Southern California, where he worked in the lettuce and melon industry.

At the onset of World War II, he joined the U.S. Army. Roy served in Alaska, where he maintained equipment used to build the Alcan Highway.

After the war, he returned to California, where he met and married Mildred Boorman.

During his working career he held several jobs, including as a salesman for a farm supply company and for a short time, as owner of a car dealership.

In 1982, he retired as an employee of the state of California.

Approximately 10 years ago, Roy and Millie settled in the Bay Area. After 50 years of marriage, Millie preceded Roy in death in 2001. Roy enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and traveling.

He is survived by his brother, Sylvan J. Weybright of North Bend; sister, Annabel Mallott of Rocky Ford, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of North Bend Chapel.
