Leslie Allen "Les" Brummett, Sr., 45, a Tippecanoe County highway department employee, was killed instantly about 10 AM Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1967, when the road-grading machine he was operating toppled over a 30-foot road embankment four miles southeast of Dayton.

Mr. Brummett was born at Battle Ground and reared at
Nashville, IN, coming to Lafayette in 1938. He had lived in the Dayton area for the past 15 years and was a member of Dayton Methodist Church. Since 1953, he was well known in the area for buying and selling livestock. He worked at Brown Rubber Co. for 15 years, where he was active in union affairs, serving as president of a union at the plant. He was formerly with the Dayton Grain Elevator Co. before joining the county highway department as a heavy-machine operator in October, 1965.

He was married in 1951 at Munfordville, KY, to Helen J. Brown, who is employed at the Indiana State Soldiers Home. Surviving with his widow are two sons, Leslie Allen, Jr. of New Whiteland and Everett Wayne of Franklin; a daughter,
Sharon (Mrs. David) Sanders of West Lafayette; a stepson and stepdaughter whom he reared, Tim Wallen of Forest Park, GA, and Mrs. Charles Yost of Dayton; his mother, Mrs. Hazel Brummett of Delphi, Rt. 4; four brothers, Russell of Lincoln, CA, Arza of Unionville, William of Burnettsville, and Donald of West Point; and six sisters, Mrs. Elsie Seaman of Indianapolis, Mrs. Emil (Sarah) Lutenegger of Monroe, WI, Mrs. David (Vivian) Summitt of Bloomington, Mrs. Alex(Margaret) Smith of Lafayette, Mrs. Lee (Fern) Beckelheimer of Frankfort, and Mrs. John (Sally) Hoshaw of Delphi, Rt. 4.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, Sept. 8, in Hippensteel Chapel, Rev. Marvin E. Grooms officiating; burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
