Walter E. DeFord, Galesburg Chapel, age 93 of 1675 Bateman St. Galesburg, Il. died Saturday March 27, 2010 at 3:05 PM at Cottage Hospital.
He was born January 12, 1917 in Farmington, Il. the son of Jeff and Mary Jennings DeFord. He married Frances M. Monzo on February 17, 1941 in Burlington, Ia.
Walter is survived by his wife Frances, one son Larry E. DeFord of Galesburg, one
brother Dale and Judy DeFord of Monmouth, Il., two sisters Betty DeFord of
Roseville,Il. and Shirley and David Tracey of Big Sandy, Tn., one grandson Brad
Deford, and two great grandsons Jay and Justin Deford. He was preceded
in death by three sisters and three brothers.
He lived in Galesburg since 1943 and worked for the former Burlington Railroad for a few years, then became a independent truck driver. He also helped to install garage doors from 1979-2002 for the family owned business DeFord Door Service.
Walter loved fishing and hunting.
Graveside services will be Thursday April 1, 2010 at 2:30 PM at Oak Lawn Memorial
Gardens with Rev. James Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 PM at
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel. Memorials maybe made to the charity of the donors choice.
