Aunt Lelia suffered from post-partum depression following the birth of her youngest son, Richard Glenn. She was placed in Spring Grove Hospital in Catonsville where she contracted tuberculosis. She was transferred to Mt. Wilson Hospital in Randallstown where she died. Her husband was unable to care for their children (two boys) and left them with aunts and uncles.
