Mary C. Compton

Mary C. Compton, 48, of Abilene and formerly of Eastland, died Wednesday afternoon from injuries sustained in a traffic accident near Sweetwater.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland with Reverend Wesley Howard officiating. Burial was in the Eastland Cemetery.

Born Mary Colita Hazard January 22, 1941 in Abilene, she grew up in Anson and Colorado City where she was a drum major for the high school band. In 1964 she moved to Eastland where she was a secretary for the Highway Department. In 1976 she went to work for Lone Star Gas Company as a secretary for the regional manager. She later moved to the field where she was a gas measurement technician. She moved to Abilene nine years ago and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anson.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Smith of Quinlin and Tori Crowden of
Eastland; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Hazard of Eastland; two brothers, Weldon
Hazard of Arlington and David Hazard of Eastland; three sisters, Billie Waldrop of Corsicana, Joann Alexander of Eastland and Peggy Sue Williams of Fort Worth, five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
