John Early Huff, son of Vincent and Lydia Huff, was born in Belmont County, Ohio, February 15, 1848, departed this life on July 28, 1920, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 13 days.

He was one of a family of twelve children, all having preceded him in death except one brother, Benjamin Huff, of Bentonsport, and two sisters, Mrs. Vitura Nabb of Hendrysburg, Ohio, and Mrs. Rachael Glass of Columbus, Ohio.

He was united in marriage to Miss Sarepta Ball, March 18, 1875, and to this union seven children were born, five sons and two daughters, Oscar of Bowen, Ill., Fred of Mexico, Mo., Everett of Bentonsport, Ia., Mrs. Sadie Elliott of Cantril, Ia., Harry of Hillsboro, Ia., Mrs. Laura Bradford of Bonaparte, Ia., and Ralph at home.

He leaves to mourn their loss, the wife and seven children, sixteen grandchildren, one brother and two sisters, and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was a kind husband and indulgent parent. He was industrious and a good neighbor, always ready to help where he was needed. Took great pleasure in helping and doing for his children always enjoying perfect health until one week before his death.

He with his family came from Ohio to Iowa in 1883 and eight years later moved to the home where he passed away. He took great pleasure in visiting his parental home and been privileged to make several visits, the last being last fall. His home and family were his idol and he will be greatly missed therein.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Story Chapel at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Luce officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Thompson cemetery.
