Mr. Shook was born Feb. 6, 1940 in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired from the N.C. Dept. of Corrections after 32 years of service. Mr. Shook was a member of the French Broad Masonic Lodge and Laurel Bend Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Litton and Vashti Moore Shook. His sisters, Barbara Blankenship, Patricia Callendar and Georgia Riddle also preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Evelyn Johnson Shook; daughter, Carol Shook of Charlotte; sons, Dale Shook and wife, Suzie and Mark Shook and wife, Robbie all of Weaverville; sister, Linda Shook of Charlotte; brothers, Donald Shook of Charlotte, Charles R. Shook of Amelia, Va. and Edward Shook of Asheville and grandchildren, Alex, Cameron and Allie Shook.
Mr. Shook's funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with
the Revs. Clayton Casteel and Ebb Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Smith Creek Cemetery, Mars Hill.
