Melba Sue Slone, age 73, resident of Shelby, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at Cleveland Clinic after complications from surgery following deteriorating health.

Born September 14, 1936 in Garrett, KY to Herbert Scott and Effie (Stone) Scott Crum she was raised by her mother and very special stepfather, Ernest Crum. On December 17, 1952 in Wayland, KY she married Jerry Slone, her husband of 57 years who survives her. To this union were born two children, Dr. Rhonda (Ronnie) Company of Bolivar, Ohio and Ronald Keith (Sherry) Slone of Shelby and was a mother to their foster son, Richard Dyer of New Haven.

She was blessed with seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; Dr. Andrea Company, twin granddaughters, Amanda and Sarah Company, Matthew Company, Joseph (Brandy) Slone and their two children, Canaan and Addison; Tabitha Slone and fiance, Joe Bernard, Benjamin Slone and his daughter, Riley Slone; two brothers, Adrian (Brenda) Scott of Fairborn, Ohio, Johnny and the late Becky Scott of Plymouth; one sister, Anietta (Billy) Loggins, of Montverde , Florida; her half sister, Betty Trimmer of Plymouth, sister-in-law, Pam Crum of Shiloh, nieces, nephews and many loving friends, too numerous to mention.

In addition to her parents and stepfather, she was preceded in death by half brothers, Glenn and Mike Crum.

A dedicated homemaker, Sue loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed reading books and was proud of her 1982 baptism in the Little Miami River.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Elder Larry Newsome of the Pleasant View Old Regular Baptist Church, will officiate with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh.
