Ocala - William E. "Earl" Abernathy, 74, of Ocala, FL., went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2010 under the loving care of his family in Ocala, FL. Mr. Abernathy was born on April 24, 1935 in Starke, FL., to his parents Henry and Novella Abernathy. Earl was a retired Fire Captain for the City of Ocala Fire Department and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was of the Christian Faith and was a former volunteer for the Marion County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Abernathy was a member of the International Association of Firefighters while he was with the Ocala Fire Department. Survived by his wife of 52 years: Linda L. Abernathy of Ocala, FL.; a son: William E. Abernathy and wife Debbie of Ocala, FL; a sister: Betty Noble and husband James of Ocala, FL; five grandchildren: Jon Haun, Debbie Haun, Michael Abernathy, Nicholas Abernathy and Brittany Abernathy. Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Henshaw and a grandson William Ford Abernathy. Graveside Funeral Services will be on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 11:00am, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Ocala, FL. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Ocala, FL.
