Charley Nelson, age 86, of Monett, MO, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO, following a short illness.
Charley was born on June 27, 1923 in Crane, MO, the son of the late Samuel Nelson and Eula Elizabeth (Scott) Nelson.
Charley was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had worked and retired in 1985 from Dayco Corporation in Springfield as an Inspector.
On April 24, 1975, Nell Tipton and Charley Nelson were united in marriage in Exeter, MO. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Charles Richard and Glenn Nelson, of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Betty Lou Land and her husband Bill, of Monett, Marie Vantuyl, of El Mirage, AZ, and Eva Mae McLean, of Post Falls, ID; one sister-in-law, Patsy Nelson, of Pierce City, MO; and a host of extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers, Lloyd, Chester, John, Warner and Joe Nelson; and three sisters, Helen, Lucille and Mary Ellen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Sammy Waterman and Brent Waterman officiating.
Interment will be in the Spring River Cemetery in Verona, MO.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
