Thomas E. Arnott of Concord, a retired Brigadier General and personnel officer for the Veterans Administration,
died Monday in Emerson Hospital in Concord.
He was 86.
Mr Arnott was born in Waltham. After graduating from Massachusetts Military Academy in 1933, he became a lieutenant in the National Guard. He was called up to active duty during WWII and became a supply officer for General Patton's "Red Ball Express."
He was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery.
Following the war, he worked for the Veterans Administration in Boston until his retirement as New England Regional personnel officer in 1980.
He remained a member of the National Guard until his retirement as a Brigadier General in 1964.
He was the former Grand Knight of the Concord Council of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks.
He leaves his wife, Vi (McGloin); two sons, Thomas P. of Quincy and John L. of clifton Park, NY; a daughter, Judith E., of Marlbourough; three stepsons, Joseph A. McGloin of Attleboro, Donald F. McGloin and Charles J. McGloin, both of Needham; a stepdaughter, Gail E. Stoddard of Sarasota, FL.; two brothers, Willard of Honolulu, and Ronald; a sister, Margaret Grubb of Ohio; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Bernard's Parish Center (Monument Hall) in Concord.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia
