Charles Joseph "Charlie" Keiter

GALION: Charles Joseph "Charlie" Keiter, 93, of Galion, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Olentangy Woods Nursing Center in Galion.

Born November 2, 1916 in Bucyrus, he was the son of the late Daniel Keiter and Gladys (Looker) Keiter. He married Iola M. (McClure) Keiter on January 1, 1941 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Sulpher Springs High School in 1935 and attended the University of Illinois. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and a member of First United Church of Christ in Galion, Galion Lodge #414 Free & Accepted Masons, 32nd Degree Member of Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine Columbus, Galion Shrine Club, Galion Scottish Rite Club, American Legion Scarbrough Post #243, Galion and Galion Moose Lodge #303. He was an avid woodworker and loved to travel extensively.

He retired from Therm-O-Disc in Mansfield in 1979 after 13 years where he was an electrician. Prior to that he worked at Timken Roller Bearings in Buyrus for 16 years where he was a gauge technician.

He is survived by one daughter and her friend, Patricia Stewart and Jim Speer of Sandusky; one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie "Bud" and Peggy Keiter of Galion; six grandchildren and spouses, Mark (Suzanne) Nye of Jacksonville, FL, Nicole (Steve) Spriggs of Milan, Stacy (Abdellah) Bahanasy of New York City, Malynne Keiter of Crestline, Bob (Carrie) Roderick of Galion and Barry (Chris) Roderick of Galion; 14 great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Lois Keiter of Ontario and one sister, Carol Reeder of Bucyrus.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Doug Keiter, four brothers and two sisters. Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, with Rev. Samuel J. Buehrer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Navy and the Galion/Crestline area veteran's organizations.

A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday during calling hours.
