James Ivey Long was the son of John and Mary Long. He served in Co. E. 15th Regt. South Carolina Volunteers, C.S.A., 1863-1865.

Born August 13, 1846 near Monticello. Entered Army February 1863 in Company E, 15 Reg. S.C.V. under Captain J. B. Davis. Wounded at Gettysburg. Now farming near Winnsboro. "This Company and Regiment, was part of Kershaw's Brigade, McLaw's Division, Longstreet's Corps, R. E. Lee's Army, North Virginia, of which every old Veteran is proud, because they know that this was the grandest army and the best fighting men the world ever produced."
