Walter J. Flyntz died of a heart attack while responding to a fire in an apartment building in Bridgeport. He was a 10-year veteran of the City of Bridgeport Fire Department. He is remembered as a father, faithful husband to his wife, Sidonia, friend and fire station cook. He is also survived by a son, David and a daughter, Nicole. Flynts was the last of 32 firefighters from Bridgeport who lost their lives in the line of duty since 1940.

It's an honor no firefighter wants to receive. His/her name engraved on a bronze plaque at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in rural, western Maryland. Flyntz name along with other 105 men and women were added for the class of 1999.
