ELMHURST, Ill. –– William Dietrich Jr., 84, of Elmhurst, Ill., formerly of Keokuk, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, in Elmbrook Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Elmhurst.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1926, in Keokuk, the son of John William and Jessie Claude Powell-Agard Dietrich Sr.

He first married Betty Loewenstein. He married Darlene Pearl Schmidt on July 18, 1952, in Carthage, Ill. She preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 1984.

He had lived in Keokuk prior to 1952 when he moved to Chicago. He later lived in Lucerne, Mo., for 10 years, before moving back to suburban Chicago.

He was a general foreman and plant manager for manufacturing firms. He served in the United States Army during War World II as a staff sergeant. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Hamilton, Ill.

Survivors include: two sons, William Dietrich and his wife, Betty, of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Gregory Dietrich and his wife, Dolly, of Villa Park, Ill., a daughter, Sonja Stottlemyer of Keokuk; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and cousins.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Dietrich, on Oct. 15, 2008; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at DeJong's Funeral Home, Keokuk.

Burial will follow in Oakgrove Cemetery, Hamilton, with full military rites.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family meeting friends during that time.
