COLUMBIA - Funeral Services for Herbert Ray McDuffie, 71, will be held at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday, November 2, 2004, in the chapel at Greenlawn Funeral Home, visitation will precede the service from 3:30 - 4:30. Interment with full military honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to the charity of choice. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. McDuffie was the husband of 34 years to the late Sara Davis McDuffie and the son of the late Harry McDuffie and Ethel Dykes. He was born July 21, 1933 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Ray retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, he served two tours in Vietnam as a door gunner; among Ray's many talents he was both a master carpenter, loving to do restoration and master locksmith. He also enjoyed racing Stock cars in earlier years, and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his mother Lyda McDuffie; daughters, Cynthia Wilson, Kathy Jeter, Mary Francis and Kelly Taylor; sons, James Teel, Donald, Michael, and Jeremy McDuffie; sisters, Nina Hobbs, Marie Cluff, Christine Bedwell, Joyce Mitchell, Francis Crosby, Gloria Wallace, Merle McDuffie and Diane Bryant; brothers, Edward, Carlton, Aaron and David; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, James McDuffie.
