Death of Mrs. Mary McCormick

Brief mention was made in our last issue of the death of Mrs. Mary McCormick, which sad event took place at her Spring mountain home at an early hour Friday morning. Mrs. McCormick had been ill from cancer for two years and her condition was such as to baffle medical skill, death coming to her relief at 3.20 o'clock on the morning of the 8th inst.

Deceased was the daughter of the old California pioneer, William Hudson, who passed from this life many years ago. She was born at Fort Sonoma June 12, 1846, just two days after the bear flag raising. When a mere child her father moved to St. Helena, and settled, his land ownings forming a large part of what is now the town. It was Mr. Hudson who gave the town the land for a public cemetery and two of our streets are named for him.

Deceased was the wife of Henry McCormick, her husband having passed away in 1870. For forty years her home was on Spring mountain, her father having in early days acquired a large stock range there, Deceased leaves five children — Chalmers, Hugh and John McCormick, and Mrs. Anna May Johnson and Miss Arlie McCormick.

The funeral took place Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Presbyterian church, Rev. James Mitchell officiating.
