John Raymond Althoff, 88, died February 13, 2010 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle, IL, after a long illness related to a traumatic brain injury. He was born August 21, 1921 in Kenosha, WI, the son of William and Eva Grau Althoff. He attended St. Mathews Grade School in Neosho, graduated from Hartford High School and Dodge County Normal School in Mayville. After teaching at Hayes Elementary School in Ashippun, WI, for one and a half years, he was inducted into the Army Air Corps and became a B-17 co-pilot in the Eighth Air Force. He flew 28 bombing missions over Germany. After graduating from Whitewater University, where he was a member of the Phi Chi Epsilon fraternity, he accepted a position as a Commercial teacher at South Beloit High School and subsequently earned a Masters Degree at the University of Iowa. On June 14, 1947 he married Gloria Pauline Mukansky in Elkhorn, WI and they made their home and raised their family in South Beloit, IL. Following Gloria's death on July 4, 1975, John later married June, widow of Emerson N. Glauner, on July 24, 1976 in St. Peter Catholic Church, South Beloit, IL.
