HER SUFFERINGS ENDED
Mrs. Evelyn Grigsby Passes Peacefully Away After Long Illness

Mrs. Evelyn E. Grigsby passed peacefully away at her home on Pope street Saturday morning at 6 o'clock. Mrs. Grigsby had been a sufferer for many years. Practically all her life she had been afflicted with asthma and for the past twenty-five years had hardly been free from it. For more than five years she had suffered continuously, but always bore up patiently, awaiting the time when her Master should call her to Himself. Two months ago she became afflicted with dropsy and the faint spark of life gradually grew dimmer until it finally flickered out.

Mrs. Evelyn Grigsby was the daughter of Mrs. Phoebe and the late George Osborne. She was in born in Illinois, November 26, 1852, and came with her parents to California in 1868. The family came direct to St. Helena and here the subject of this sketch grew to womanhood.

On September 12, 1872, deceased was married to W. Preston Grigsby, now in Arizona, continuing to make her home in St. Helena. Deceased is survived by her husband and four children—Mrs. Frank S. Chord, of Napa; William Grigsby, now in the East; George and Fred J. Grigsby; also her aged mother, who is now in her 84th year and resides on Pine street.

Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church and regularly attended divine services as long as her health permitted her to walk to the church. She was kind-hearted and in her affliction had the dean sympathy of many friends.

The funeral took place from the undertaking parlors of W.F. Mercier, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. James Mitchell officiating. The pall bearers were J.H. Steves, Irvin Wilson, Walter Metzner and G.P. Benvie. The remains were laid to rest in the St. Helena cemetery.
