Professional Karateka, Kickboxer. He became the K-1 World Grand Prix champion in 1996, and won second place in 1997 and 1998. He was born Andreas Hug in Zurich, Switzerland but was raised in Wohlen. From an early age he had been competing with success in kyokushinkai karate tournaments. In 1993 he had changed from kyokushinkai to seidokai karate, and become a professional fighter. That same year he defeated Nobuaki Kakuda in the full-contact karate segment of the "K-1 Grand Prix'93". In 1996, at the "K-1 Grand Prix" he fought Mike Bernardo, and knocked him out to become the K-1 World Grand Prix champion. Throughout his career he held notable wins, over well known fighters such as Ernesto Hoost, Musashi, Peter Aerts, Mirko "Cro-Cop" Filipovic and Jerome Le Banner. Hug had fought in over 250 international contests, and compiled a record of 38 wins (22 knockouts), and 9 losses in 48 career fights.
