MAN KILLED AT OSWEGO
Mound Valley Man Who Had Been Dringing Got Off at Oswege and Lay Down on Track

Tuesday morning about 5 o'clock, John Christie who lives near Mound Valley, was run over by a freight train near Oswego and instantly killed, says the Parsons Sun. Christie had been to Joplin on a Frisco excursion and was returning to his home at Mound Valley. It is supposed that when he reached Oswego he thought he had reached Mound Valley, and got off the train.
He walked back down the track about a mile and laid down on the track and went to sleep. The next morning about 5'oclock the engineer on the west bound frieght saw an object on the track through the dim light and whistling tried to stop the train, but the train was under such headway and so close to the man before he was discovered that it was impossible to stop it and striking the man, killed him instantly. The body was taken to Oswego and he was identified as John Christie by the label on his coat and his address was given as Mound Valley. His relatives at that place were telephoned and came up and identified him.
Christie was about forty years of age and unmarried and had been living with a sister near Mound Valley and for a time had been employed on the Katy bridge gang. When the body was brought to Oswego a bottle that had contained whiskey was found broken in his coat pocket and it is supposed that he had been drining or was drunk at the time he left the train with such fatal results. The remains were taken to Oswego by his relatives and interment will take place in that city. No blame is attached to the engineer or any of the train crew.
