Services are 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Cantlon Otterness Funeral Chapel with Bro. Curtis Owens officiating. Carla Deckard and Sandy Hatfield will provide the music. Burial is in Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Friends may call at the funeral home until noon on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Escorts are Rex Blair, Gene Hill, Bill Cahow, Al Nyberg, Travis Headings, Wib Wallace, Bill Walker, Rex Walker, Jim Beckner and Greg Wommack.

Oval Marie (Owens) Howerton was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Buffalo, the daughter of Robert Milton and Grace Lorraine (Yates) Owens. She died Feb. 4, 2010, at the age of 97 years, 6 months and 3 days.

She was united in marriage with Lolan Hadley Howerton on Dec. 21, 1929, and to this union two children were born.

She was saved and joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist church at an early age. She remained a faithful member until her death.

Her home and family were the center of her life. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special joy to her. She was a talented poet and an avid letter writer. She spent many hours piecing quilt tops and had pieced 11 tops since the death of her beloved husband in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years; her parents; three sisters: Opal Davis, Ethel White and Ressa Letterman; a son-in-law, Dick Carney; and an infant great-granddaughter, Amy Dawn Sanders.

Survivors include her son, Robert L. and wife, Betty Howerton, Buffalo; her daughter, Karen H. Carney, Bartlesville, Okla.; six grandchildren: Pam and husband, Warren Louderbaugh, Kayla and husband, Don Robbs, Gina Hohensee, Joy and husband, Steve Schuelke, Susan Deck, and Andy and wife, Becky Deck; 12 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and other family members, her church family, and a host of friends who will all truly miss her.
