Mary Emily Parker Hendrix, 94, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, of 109 Rosewood Lane, died of natural causes on Monday, October 20, 2008, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born October 11, 1914 in Lavonia, Ga., she was preceded in death by her parents, Farris Albert Parker and Mattie Purcell Parker; her husband of 52 years, William Thomas Hendrix, a family physician in Spartanburg for 47 years; and three brothers, Jim Roy Parker, Robert William Parker, and Farris Candler Parker. She attended Piedmont College and Winthrop College and received a Medical Technologist degree from Spartanburg General Hospital, where she was employed for a few years. Most of her life, she was a mother and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, the Lydia Sunday School Class and Young at Heart. She was also a member of the Spartanburg Debutante Club, Spartanburg Country Club, Past President of the Spartanburg County Medical Auxiliary, Past Chairman of the Spartanburg County Cancer Drive, Charter member of the Ivy Ring Garden Club, Past President of the P.E.O. Club, and a member of the Athenaeum Book Club.

Surviving are her four children, William Thomas Hendrix Jr. and wife, Charlotte, of Fort Mill, S.C., Anne Hendrix Marchant and husband, Seabrook, of Greenville, S.C., Marian Hendrix Sellers and husband, Don, of Greenville, S.C., and Jean Hendrix Drozdak and husband, Dennis, of Spartanburg, S.C.; ten grandchildren, Brian Hendrix Marchant and fiance Stacie Thompson, Mary Beth Marchant Galbreath and husband Nathan, Laura Marchant Williams and husband Greg, William Donald Sellers, Matthew Blair Sellers and fiance Holly Ready, Jennifer Drozdak Stivers and husband Eddie, Andrew Dennis Drozdak, William Thomas Hendrix, III, Emily Charlotte Hendrix, and Rebecca Christine Hendrix; four great-grandchildren, Beatrice Wilson Galbreath, Laura Katherine Galbreath, Clayton Marchant Williams, and Edward Marcell Stivers, IV; and a brother, Howard Bryant Parker of Seneca, S.C.

Visitation will be 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, S.C. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan. The family has requested a private burial.

Pallbearers will be her five grandsons and her nephew, Robert Patrick Parker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Free Medical Clinic, P.O. Box 3466, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
