According to the "Maries County History" written by Everett King, the Ramseys came from South Carolina. He first appeared in Missouri Annals in 1804 when he lived at Sandy Creek Mines in Jefferson County. His wife was the daughter of Peter Huskey, who came to Sandy Creek from South Carolina about the same time. Delafayette's wife Mary "Polly" (Huskey) Ramsey's grand-father, James Miller, was a Revolutionary War soldier. Several Ramseys (all slave owners), Peter and Isaac Huskey, and a James Miller lived in Edgefield County, South Carolina in 1790.

From information received from Darrell Wideman (Ltr dtd 26 Sep 1988, (10707 Jamacha Blvd, #123, Spring Valley, CA 92078), Peter Huskey, his wife, Mary "Polly", her father, James Miller, Peter Huskey's son, John and family, to include Rebecca and Isaac Ogle, Sarah and Ben Williams, Mary and Delafayette Ramsey and Ben's brother Landon Williams and family all emigrated to Missouri (eight families). This group moved here in a cart drawn by four horses with one extra horse. They settled in the Vicinity of Hillsboro, Missouri on Belows Creek. By the year 1800, quite a number of families had settled in the area of Horine, Kimmswick, on Glaze Creek, Belows Creek and on the Plattin and Big River near Byrnes Mill. The Indian Tribes of Delawares, Shawnees and Cherokees were peaceable but the Osage were savage and warlike. In 1802 Spain retroceded this territory back to France but the Spanish Officers remained in authority until the United States took control. Upper Louisiana was organized into a territorial government by Act of Congress in 1804. William Clark was Governor of the territorial government under Spanish rule at this time.

"This is about the time our ancestors first arrived in this area of Missouri" (Information obtained for this document obtained through research in "Arizona Public Library, the courthouse at Hillsboro, Jefferson County Missouri, "Our Jefferson County Heritage, by Zoe Booth Rutledge, the History of Jefferson County, and from other counties in Missouri)
