Ruth M. Smith, 85, of New Cumberland, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence, Susquehanna Twp.
She was a retired computer operator for the former Navy Ships Parts Control Center, Mechanicsburg, and was an employee of the former Kinney Shoes, Mechanicsburg. Mrs Smith was a 21 year member of V.F.W. Post 7415 Auxiliary, New Cumberland, and a 35 year member of the American Legion Post 109 Auxiliary, Mechanicsburg.
Born in Rossville, York Co., on May 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William B. and Elsie B. (Krone) Laughman. She was the widow of James A. Smith and was also preceded in death by a son, William Terry Smith, four brothers, Dale, John, Dean and Harry Laughman and a sister, Lelia Meisenhelter.
Surviving are a son, Chauncey Todd Laughman (Wanda) of Mt. Wolf; a daughter, Helen L. Ketrow (Bradley) of Elliottsburg; a daughter in law, Patty A. Smith of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Mary Isabelle "Pat" Everhart of Manchester; two grandchildren, Kelly M. Forlizzi of Elliottsburg and Teri-Sue Aswad of Abbottstown; three great grandchildren, Carissa, Allison and Brian Jr. "Buddy" LaForm; many nieces and nephews.
Grave side services will be held at 1 PM Friday in Warrington Friends Cemetery, Warrington Twp. with Hospice of Central PA Chaplain Yvonne Ruelli-Butler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence, care of Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg PA 17110.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
