Born in Morgan Township of Butler Co., OH, Samuel Hardin DeArmond, Jr. was the seventh child born to his parents. He married Hannah Stephens 11 Oct 1866 in Butler Co., OH. Some years following the Civil War, Samuel, a farmer, and Hannah, with their growing family, began a westward migration, stopping for a time in IN, where their youngest daughter was born, and arriving in Garfield Township of Finney Co., KS by 1900. Three of the four children born to Hannah and Samuel survived to adulthood: Sarah (Sallie), Ralph Stephen, and Mary.
