LANCASTER - Mr. Joseph E. "Joe" Ghent, 80, of 2284 Charlotte Highway died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Shiloh ARP Church, with the Rev. Steve Ulmer officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery with Masonic rites by Jackson Masonic Lodge.
A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Ghent was a retired self-employed masonry contractor, a member of Shiloh ARP Church, where he was a deacon and elder for many years, and a member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53 for more than 50 years. He served in the Army during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Ellen Cauthen Ghent of the home; four sons, Norman M. Ghent of Liberty Hill, W.C. Ghent of Winnsboro, H.E. "Manny" Ghent of Long Beach, N.C., and Ronnie D. Ghent of Lancaster; two daughters, Martha Jo Ghent Walden and Joyce Ghent Cooper, both of Lancaster; his brother, Harry Wade Ghent of Lancaster; two sisters, Lois McDonough of Lancaster and Mary Lee Ray of Williston; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.
