DR. WILLIAM F. LAZEAR
William Francis Lazear was born Feb. 14, 1857, near Ryerson Station, Greene county, Pennsylvania, and departed this life at the home of his son, Dr. Wm. R. Lazear, in Derby, Iowa on July 13, 1936, at the age of 79 years and 5 months.
On Feb. 6, 1881, he was married to Lucinda Ellen Gallentine, who preceded him in death on July 28, 1920. To this union seven children were born, all being present at his bedside at the time of his passing except his eldest son.
The first year of his married life was spent in Pennsylvania. He then came to Iowa in 1882 and lived on a farm southwest of Derby for twenty-six years, then moving to Derby where he lived four years.
Seventeen years were then spent in Humeston. The last three years of his life were spent in Brownsville, Texas, at the home of his daughter. In April of this year, when his health became feeble, he desired to return to Iowa and his daughter, Mrs. Mary Moneur, brought him to Derby, where he had since been cared for in the home of his son.
In 1891 Mr. Lazear graduated from the Veterinary college, and in 1906 took a post graduate course. He practiced his profession for about thirty-five years. He had been a member of the Presbyterian church at Derby for many years.
Surviving him are seven children, four daughters and three sons, fourteen grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.
The children who were with him during his last illness and were present at the last sad rites were: Mrs. Susan Young, Fort Collins, Colo.; Mrs. Jessie Bond, Des Moines; Mrs. Mary Moneur, Brownsville, Texas; Mrs. Alice Wing, Van Wert; Fred Lazear, Detroit, Mich.; Dr. Wm. R. Lazear, Derby.
Funeral services were held at the Derby Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. F. L. Provan, of Onslow, a former Derby minister, and burial was in the Derby cemetery.
