Louis Elmo "Red" Hill
Louis Elmo "Red" Hill, 88, of Cross City, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Tri-County Hospice.Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Cross City Cemetery with Rev. David Downing officiating.Mr. Hill was born in Jones County. He served in the United States Army during World War II at the same time as three of his brothers. He received a Purple Heart, but all returned home safely.He moved to Cross City, Fla., from Laurel, in January 1957 with Continental Turpentine and Rosin. He retired in 1987 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed watching television sports, fishing and watching the Riels boys mechanic. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cross City.He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Catherine Hill, and died on what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.Survivors include daughters, Annie Laura (Rayburn) Futch of Titusville, Fla., Marie (Dennis) Bennett of Old Town and Barbara (Randy) Corbin of Cross City; sisters, Edna Hopkins of Waco, Texas, and Dorothy Haney of Houston, Texas; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Rick Gooding Funeral in Cross City, Fla., which is in charge of arrangements.
