GRANDFIELD - Memorial service for Clair James Day, 93, Grandfield, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Grandfield.

A reception will follow the service in First Presbyterian Fellowship Hall.

Mr. Day passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at his home.

Private family burial will be held at a future date under direction of Gray Funeral Home, Grandfield.

He was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Clyde, Kan., to Edward and Grace McConnell Day. He graduated from Grandfield High School in 1934. He married Nita June Sledge on May 5, 1941, in Marietta. Shortly after their marriage, he joined the United States Navy, where he served as a seabee in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon returning from the war, he managed service stations for Bell Oil and Gas Company for 35 years and resided in Burkburnett, Texas.

After his retirement from Bell Oil and Gas Company, his family relocated to Grandfield, where he privately owned and operated service stations in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Grandfield. He loved to golf, garden, and fish and was a fanatical supporter of the Oklahoma Sooners. Clair was a loving person and was especially proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nita; a son, Phillip James Day; two brothers: Cecil and Leonard Day; and two sisters: Faye Washburn and Letha Young.
