JOHNSON
Ellen C. Johnson, daughter of John and Rose (Pulley) Evans, was born January 30, 1892 in Derby, Iowa and passed away April 17, 1978, in Chico, Calif., at the age of 87 years, two months and 18 days.
On April 12, 1909 she was united in marriage to Earl Sowder. Two children were born to this union, a son, Orville, and a daughter, Mildred. Earl passed away on Feb. 20, 1920.
On November 8, 1923 Ellen was united in marriage to Kenneth Johnson. One daughter, Louise, was born to this union. They resided in Lucas County until 1942, when they moved to Chico, Calif.
Her husband preceded her in death on December 11, 1950, and her son, Orville, on October 2, 1954. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mollie Savely, and a brother, Simon Evans.
Survivors include her daughter, Mildred Edgington and husband Frank, of Chico, Calif.; her daughter, Louise Kristal and husband Robert, of Hollister, Calif.; six grandchildren, David Sowder and wife of Chico, Robert Edgington and wife of Corvallis, Ore., Janet Rios and husband, Edward and Karen Kristal, all of Hollister; five great-grandchildren, Shane, Troy and Cindi Sowder, Jenny and Luis Rios.
Other survivors include a step-mother, Mrs. Flonnie Evans; four half-sisters, Darlene Klages of Arkansas, Ila Nine of rural Chariton, Glenys Neer of Missouri, and Peggy Fowler of Ottumwa; two half-brothers, Ivan Evans of rural Chariton and Kermit Evans of Arkansas.
She was deeply loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Services were held at the Brusie Funeral Home in Chico, Calif. on April 19, with the Rev. Leonard Brown officiating.
Funeral services were also held on Friday, April 21, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton with the Rev. Silas Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Derby Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Evans, Craig Nash, Butch Evans, Marvin Neer Jr., Raymond Storm and Dwaine Evans.
