Jane Shoolbred Ball Heggie, of Columbia, departed this life for eternal rest January 4, 2010.

Born May 20, 1935, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Robert Wilson Ball, M.D. and Marjorie Buhler Ball.

Mrs. Heggie studied art at The Sorbonne in Paris her freshman year in college. She then graduated with a BA in English from the University of SC.

She taught high school English and Art and was an owner of Webb Rawls Art Gallery for several years. Mrs. Heggie continued to dedicate her life to the teaching and rearing of her children.

Mrs. Heggie was a member of the Columbia Committee of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Wistaria Garden Club, and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Columbia. In addition, she was a member of First Families of SC, the Quadrille Club, the Palmetto Club and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Robah Gray Heggie, Jr. and surviving relatives are: Janie Heggie of Columbia, Marjorie Heggie (David Estefano) and David Shand Estefano and Anne Estefano, all of Columbia, Julia Love Griggs Heggie Johnson (Larry) and Junelle Gray Johnson, all of Summerville; Stephen and Mary Downs and Ashley, Heather and Jessica Downs, all of Columbia.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Ball Griggs and Marjorie Ball Downs.

Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
