James Brownlee Hunter, of Austin, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008. Brownlee, as most friends knew him, was born April 17, 1916 in Santa Anna, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hunter, to whom he was married 58 years. In addition, he was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and A.L. Hunter and by his brother, Edwin Hunter. Brownlee was an active member of First Baptist Church of Austin for over 50 years. He especially enjoyed the Zollie Steakley Sunday School Class. In addition, he was a charter member of the Austin Orchid society and for many years generously shared the flowers he raised. He was a graduate of Baylor University, with a degree in Chemistry and worked for over 35 years in this profession at the Texas State Department of Health and the Texas Department of Water Resources. Most of all, however, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very influential in their lives and helped instill in them, by his example, his beliefs and values. While many of his contemporaries have, through the years, already passed on, he was fortunate to have had a wide range of friends who meant a great deal to him and to his family. He was a quiet and gentle man, who lived his life to serve. A graveside service is planned for Tuesday, August 26, in Santa Anna, Texas. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Brownlee Hunter will be held on Wednesday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church at 9th and Trinity in Austin Texas.
