Daughter of Charles E. and Mary Patterson Wilson, she married Frank S. Yanda June 14, 1941 (he preceded her in death on April 21, 2003).

She was a 1966 summa cum laude graduate of Edinboro University with a degree in library science. She retired as school librarian in 1982 from the Orlando Area School System.
