US Marine PFC Raymond Christopher Lawson, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Oxford, NC.

US Marine Private First Class Raymond Christopher Lawson was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, PFC Lawson served our country until February 9th, 1968 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that Raymond died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. Raymond was born on December 20th, 1948 in Oxford, North Carolina and was raised in Roxboro NC. PFC Lawson is on panel 38E, line 054 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

I knew Raymond when I was a Freshman in high school and he was a Senior at Person County High School. I found him to be a warm, friendly person who I admired and could have developed a good friendship. He was student council president and taught me much. I wish I could have known him better. He was the son of Mr Cleotis and Mrs Dollie Perry Lawson of Virgilina, Halifax, Virginia, Route 1, 24598. Brother to Demetrious Lawson, Frankie D. Turner, Hester B. Jones, Lola Sue Johnson and Esther M. Singh; Cleotis Lawson Jr., Noel Lawson and Perry Lawson; and Aunts, Shirley Brown, Dixie Farrish and Odie Mae Harris.

He served with Foxtrot Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
