Robert C. Simonis, 88, of Point Place, passed away on December 12, 2009, at Mercy-St. Anne's Hospital.

He was born in May of 1921 in Toledo, Ohio, to Charles and Frances (Derflinger) Simonis who have both preceded him in death.

Bob was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army Air Force in Panama and the European Theater of operation. He was selfless in his sacrifice to his nation and her people; his courage will never be forgotten and his country is humbled by his bravery, he was truly one of the "Great Generation." Bob was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service medal with 1 bronze star.

After the war he married Donna Zimmerman in 1946, she passed away in 1959 leaving 5 young children. It was his heartfelt determination to raise all the children together which he did, leaving behind a legacy of strong family values. It was that determination and his faith in God that guided him his entire life.

Another daughter and son were welcomed into the family with his marriage to Ursula Owens in 1971. She passed away in 1986.

Bob retired from Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation after 30 years of service; he then went to work at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Northwest Ohio for 10 years.

Bob once again found himself selflessly devoting his time to others; he was active in many capacities at Point Place United Methodist Church and volunteered his time as a patient representative at the former Riverside Hospital for 10 years.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his values his children, Robert C. Simonis, Jr., Dianne (Richard) Keel, Linda (Robert) Kuehling, Joyce (Thomas) Hamrick, Barbara (Michael) Gruber, and Step-daughter; Leigh (Thomas) Ozuk; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren and sister, Sr. Florence Simonis, R.S.M.
