Columbia - Funeral services for Burton Able, Jr., 75 of 953 Custer St., will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Talbert-Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Interment will be in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund, American Cancer Society, or Shriner's Hospital in Greenville.

Mr. Able died Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at his residence. Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Burton Able and Doll Iola Perry Able, Sr.

He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, a former fireman with the Columbia City Fire Department, retiring as an engineer, and a former employee of River Bank Zoo. He was a member of S. C. State Fireman's Association, Dutch Fork Masonic Lodge #402, Scottish Rite, and a charter member of Jamil Shrine Temple. Mr. Able was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class.

Surviving are wife Mary Maxine Tomijanovich Able of Columbia; daughters, Connie A. Welch of Hopkins and Sherry A. Logue of Columbia; sons Burton Able, III of Goose Creek and Jerry Maier of Nashville, Tenn.; sister, Audrey A. Werts of Newberry; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
