Carl Travis Wilson, (MAJ, USAF, Ret.), 71, of Gilbert, Arizona, died unexpectedly during surgery on Friday, July 31, 2009, at Chandler Regional Hospital. He was born March 1, 1938 in Jasper, Alabama, the son of the late Lois and Carl Wilson. He is married to Laura Wilson who survives him.

After graduating high school, and attending junior college in Jasper, Travis joined the Air Force on February 14, 1958. He graduated from Florida State University with a degree in mathematics in 1964. Later, he earned a Master's Degree in Mathematics from Auburn University.

Upon retirement from the Air Force, Travis went to work in the field of aerospace technology working with companies including Lockheed, McDonnell Douglas, and finally retiring from Boeing in Long Beach, Calif., as a Manager of Crew Station Simulation Laboratories. While living in Long Beach, Travis was Commander of the Los Alamitos American Legion.

In 1999, Travis and Laura moved to Gilbert, Arizona, and Travis joined the Military Officers Association of America of which he was twice elected president of the Superstition Chapter. Travis was also involved in the National Watch and Clock Association for 20 years and was associated with several chapters in Arizona and California.

Travis is survived by his 2nd wife, Laura Wilson; his brothers, Ken and Sam; and Cousin, Shirley Jean; his 1st wife Stella D. Wilson; his sons, Carl Travis Wilson Jr. (Renee), Thomas Carl Wilson (Jason); his daughters, Linda Ann Fix (Paul), Tanya Marie Jackson (Nathan), Zerina Rene Wilson (Adrienne), and Brenda Sue Johnson; step-children, Sherry Brown (Gil) and Steve Farmer (Yoli); 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Juanita Fix; and 2 great-grandsons, Brandon and Braylon Wilson.

Travis was an organ donor. Travis was most loved for his great sense of humor by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Memorial services were held Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Queen of Heaven Mortuary in Mesa, Arizona.
