Joyce Lavada Kirby-Samuels
Homemaker, 85

Joyce Lavada Kirby-Samuels, a native of Arkansas, a 55-year resident of California and a 25-year resident of Joshua Tree, died at Hi-Desert Medical Center March 16, 2004. She was 85 years old.

She was born April 24, 1918, and was married to Duane Samuels for 33 years.

Mrs. Samuels had nine sons, two of whom are deceased, and four daughters.

Mrs. Samuels had been a life member of the Joshua Tree Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for the past 20 years.

She is survived by husband Duane Samuels, sons Gene Kirby of Wrightwood, Don Kirby of Pahrump, Nev., Jerry Kirby of Clairmore, Okla., Tom Kirby of Victorville, Eddie Kirby of Ridgecrest, Mike Kirby of Tempe, Ariz., and Rick Kirby of Reimen, Oreg., daughters Judy Buggert, Donna Boswell and Susie Sterns, all of Puyallup, Wash., and Patty Jennings of Clovis, 39 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons Bob and John Kirby.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. March 22 at Mountain Valley Memorial Park.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. March 23 with Pastor Kenneth Goff officiating.

The VFW Auxiliary will also be present.
